About the speakers

Roselyn is a dual-qualified lawyer specialising in employment law. She has over 20 years of experience working locally and overseas. After graduating from the University of Malta, she began her career with the Malta Employers Association. She subsequently moved to the UK and pursued an LLM at De Montfort University in Leicester, ‘Employment Law in Context’. After working with reputable UK law firms, she went on to establish her own boutique law firm in Kent in 2009, specialising exclusively in providing employment law advice to employer and employee clients.

In 2012, Roselyn moved back to Malta and continued her practice locally. Mirroring her experience in the UK, she once again set up another boutique law firm in Malta, specialising in the provision of expert advice, tailor-made to each client’s specific legal and business requirements. Roselyn has represented corporate clients across various industries, including manufacturing, gaming, financial services, and aviation. She also represents employee clients and several C-level employees. Roselyn is also passionate about sharing her knowledge with others and has amassed years of experience creating and organising training sessions and courses for clients on specific employment law subjects.

Reading law at the University of Malta, Dr Chris Vella obtained a Bachelor of Laws degree in International Relations in 2013 and a Diploma of Notary Public in 2014. He subsequently obtained a Doctorate in Laws (LL.D.) in 2016, after submitting a thesis entitled “The Changing Legal Landscape for Concession Contracts in Light of Directive 2014/23/EU”.

Dr Vella has gained broad experience across a number of areas of the law, with a particular focus on general civil and commercial law matters, construction projects, concession contracts, tender documents and procedures, public procurement disputes, planning law and employment law. He has assisted clients before various fora, including the Maltese Superior Courts, the Malta Arbitration Centre, mediation and other alternative dispute resolution bodies.

Dr Vella also serves as company secretary to a number of private limited liability companies.

After having taken part in internship experiences in the corporate law field, Patrick joined Roselyn in her firm towards the end of his University years and has now gained abundant experience practising mainly in the field of employment law. He has developed a keen interest in the subject and mainly deals with Industrial Tribunal cases and other related employment law matters, advising both employers and employees and assisting in the drafting of contracts, policies and Tribunal proceedings. Patrick also currently practices in and deals with family law-related matters such as separations, divorces and the like.

Patrick is also keen on organising and providing training on employment-related subjects and regularly works with Roselyn to create and organise tailor-made training sessions and courses for clients, which can range from basic overview sessions to training on specific topics. He enjoys meeting trainees, involving them in his deliberations, and providing them with practical tips throughout his training.

Lynn has worked in the payroll and HR fields since 2001, having held positions in the Maltese government and prominent businesses. She has focused her expertise on payroll over the last few years.

She decided to start her practice in February 2020. McCormick Payroll & HR specialises in payroll and reaches hundreds of businesses across a wide range of industries. She communicates directly with her clients and works hard to maintain a personal relationship with each one. She insists on having a company that provides Flexibility, Communication and Family Friendly Measures. Her office is open after hours for those who need her services and cannot afford to pay for them.

She is passionate about human rights and youth and achieved a qualification in Youth Ministry. She advocates strongly for equal rights in the place of work.

A Mathematics and Physics graduate, with a BSc (Hons) and MSc in Sustainable Development, Martin Borg has occupied several leadership roles in education and training over the last twenty years. Martin is a creative and critical realist, with a strong passion for education and training.

Martin has occupied several educational leadership positions in Malta including that of CEO of NCFHE, Director for Apprenticeship and Work-Based Learning, Director of Studies, Director for Curriculum Development and Management, EU Project(s) Leader, Deputy Director and Senior Lecturer at MCAST, ITS and University of Malta.

Martin is currently reading for his doctorate at Edinburgh Business School focusing on International Business & Management with a direct focus on international education hubs.

In 2021, Martin founded the company EduAlliance which focuses on creating the necessary synergies and solutions for existing providers, organisations, industries and entrepreneurs seeking to enter the education and training market.

As a Training Manager within the HR team of a reputable telecommunications company, Katrina was involved in talent management, call centre upskilling, leadership and development programmes, as well as product launches and sales training.

Katrina is an avid learner herself. Katrina was also involved in research on different generational employee trends in Malta. This led her to the presentation of this research at conferences addressed to senior business leaders and HR professionals.

Katrina continues to learn by following a Diploma in Coaching and Mentoring. She has remained an active trainer and coach throughout her career, currently lecturing in HR and leadership programmes.

Mr Frederick Schembri is a proficient executive with a proven track record spanning twenty-five years in highly regulated manufacturing industries, having broad management experience in leadership roles, and with specialisation in integrated global supply chain initiatives. He has been the catalyst for five pharmaceutical start-ups both locally and overseas.

In June 2018 he was appointed President of the Board of Governors of Malta’s Vocational College University, namely MCAST, to develop collaborations between industry and educators. His vision for vocational education is set in the context of high-end research initiatives with industry, which offers a new kind of technical education.

In January 2019 he was appointed as a board member of the foundation for “The Commonwealth Centre for Connected Learning”. The scope of the foundation is to promote an inclusive approach to education through the development and sharing of open learning and distance education, knowledge, resources, and technologies.

Currently, Mr Schembri is the General Manager at Torrent Pharma LTD.

Loredana has a background in the banking industry, having worked over 20 years at HSBC, with the last 5 years overlooking the human resources of the branch. From 2016 to 2019, Loredana was promoted to HR Generalist and was responsible for 600 employees, mainly in the retail business, financial crime and regulatory compliance.

Her role was to drive the development of the HR strategy as an integral competent of the business strategy and to implement people plans with client groups ensuring a sophisticated value-added relationship.

Loredana had to act as a coach and confidante to business leaders, challenging where appropriate, role modelling HSBC leadership behaviours, and encouraging self-reflection, particularly around people management.

Currently, Loredana acts as the Assistant Director at EY.

Graduated Doctor of Laws from the University of Malta in 2003, Roberta has acquired substantial experience in the social sector in Malta, having served on public bodies as well as in the non-profit sector, including the Guardian for Future Generations.

Roberta is currently Director at Weave Consulting - engaging the business community to adopt sustainable practices to have a more positive impact on society and the environment and to contribute to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals. She is also a founding member and Project Director of SEAM (Social Entrepreneurs Associations Malta); a member of the board of VSF Malta, and a member of the Advisory Board of the Institute of Directors (Malta), as well as forming part of EcoDA’s Task Force on ESG matters.

She also manages the newly set up Europe Direct Core Platform. In 2021, she was awarded the ‘Sustainability Role Model Award’ during HSBC Malta’s Businesswoman Awards.

Alastair is currently the Chief Commercial Officer of Expedition42 - a company with passionate people and inspiring ideas. Expedition42 is determined to continuously deliver real tangible value to businesses, supporting them in optimising their human capital and elevating productivity.

Morgan Parnis is passionate about entrepreneurship and has co-founded several ventures in the fields of education, research, technology and healthcare. He is the CEO of Central Mediterranean Business School (formerly Academy of Business Leaders) which is a further and higher education institution, and Esprimi, a research company specialising in market and employee research.

Morgan is also the chairperson of LobesLab, a company that focuses on business intelligence and software development solutions. He is a partner at Mdina Partners where he is involved in business incubation projects. Recently he co-founded Community Centred Care (3C Malta) which offers quality care at home and Edu Alliance creating the necessary synergies and solutions for quality learning to happen.

Apart from his entrepreneurial interests, Morgan also enjoys running and participating in half-marathon competitions. He is an avid learner and consumes many audiobooks and podcasts during his runs and daily commutes. Morgan was awarded a Master's in Business Administration from Warwick Business School and a Bachelor’s in Psychology from the University of Malta.
